The Cottages
Our personal choice, and one influenced by the economics of the restoration, was to follow the road less traveled in lodging, a road in search of simplicity in every detail, rather than high décor, more electronics, and landscape architecture.

Instead we chose simple, Shaker/Swedish inspired cottage interiors, a natural landscape, a shocking absence of night lighting to reveal the night sky, and the introduction of a small farm producing food for our guests.

A few surprise results were first, the numbers of travelers searching along that same road; and, second, contrary to general assumptions, the extent to which environmental simplicity (land and buildings), enhances and intensifies an individuals, a couples, and a familys vacation experience! Less truly is more.

Throughout the evolution of our project to save Mar Vista, our
best promoters have been our guests, so we think it best to let
them show you the cottages through their eyes and in their words.
