Some of the Wildflowers in our Part of the World
5/15/09

We are half way through May. The swallows are back, this year's fawns are starting to appear, and cow parsnip is rampant in the fields. Wild flowers are everywhere. The calypso is gone, but the orchid that some call the phantom hides deep in the forest in the shadow of giant trees. There are wide color variations begining to be seen among the ubiquitous douglas iris and hound's tounge is going strong. The apple blossums are on a tree that was planted when lumber was king along this part of the California coast. It was planted more than a century ago to provide fruit for hungry loggers and its spring blossums are still unbelievably beautiful.
